On September 25 and 26, 2023, Meltone participated in the Big Data & AI exhibition in Paris. Our participation aimed to consolidate our position in the Data Science and AI market and to maintain our commitment to technological innovation, all with the goal of offering relevant data-driven support (an approach based on company data for decision-making) to our clients. During these two days, we took our place at our partners’ booths, including Snowflake, to stay at the forefront of the latest innovations. Our presence was not merely passive exploration, but also involved active exchanges with Snowflake technical experts to deeply understand the new features that will shape the future of Data Science and AI.

Data Science is a constantly evolving field that largely improves how companies leverage their data to make strategic decisions. It opens up various opportunities for data manipulation, from extraction to use in different cases. During this process, AI algorithms use company business data as inputs to produce valuable business insights.

At the Big Data & AI exhibition, we discovered how Snowflake was pushing the boundaries of data by introducing innovations such as “Document AI” and the integration of Streamlit.”

These innovations open new perspectives for companies by allowing them to fully exploit the power of Large Language Models (LLMs) and make data analysis highly accessible to various departments, even the least technical ones.

They also facilitate the creation of interactive applications to leverage the results of learning algorithms, thereby promoting the scalability of these solutions and the widespread adoption of these technologies within the company.

Without further ado, let’s discover the first innovation: Document AI

One of Snowflake‘s major developments is the launch of Document AI, a new interface based on a Large Language Model (LLM) built on Applica’s pioneering generative AI technology.

One of Snowflake‘s major developments is the launch of Document AI, a new interface based on a Large Language Model (LLM) built on Applica’s pioneering generative AI technology.

This tool offers companies the ability to quickly extract value from their unstructured documents, such as scans, images, or handwritten texts, known for their complexity to exploit with existing functionalities in Snowflake.

By integrating Document AI into the Snowflake platform, companies will have the ease of analyzing and extracting content from their documents, for example, amounts on invoices frequently presented as images or PDF files, stored in various locations such as data warehouses or databases. Another relevant use case is the extraction of terms from contracts written in natural language, with the possibility of refining the results through a visual interface and natural language processing.

Furthermore, you can store this information as a table or place it in a pipeline to transmit it to another application.

Document AI is designed to be accessible to everyone: no prior machine learning knowledge is required, and its maintenance is handled by Snowflake‘s teams, thus guaranteeing its accuracy and reliability.

In summary, through Document AI (currently only available in private preview), Snowflake offers a cutting-edge LLM helping its customers better understand their documents and leverage the power of AI to make data processing fast, efficient, and more accurate.

Using native Snowflake algorithms is certainly advantageous, but what about those already existing on other Frameworks, such as Streamlit?

Good news! Snowflake now integrates the Python framework Streamlit. Thanks to this integration, users can develop applications that manipulate and exploit data in Snowflake without having to transfer data or application code to an external platform.

Moreover, Streamlit is also known for facilitating the creation of AI model-based applications, including LLMs, by using predefined components such as charts and widgets, which can be easily customized, thus requiring no advanced programming experience.

An example of Streamlit’s use in Snowflake lies in the creation of interactive applications. Users can leverage their company’s data or retrieve datasets from the marketplace, then load them into tables to prepare them for digestion by one or more data science algorithms. The learning outcome is then displayed through interactive applications.

Snowflake customers can thus use Streamlit to develop and deploy powerful user interfaces for their applications, all integrated into the Snowflake platform. This approach allows teams to easily share applications using Snowflake’s existing governance and deploy them quickly. Since everything is already integrated into Snowflake, this eliminates the need for downloads or environment preparations, thereby reducing latency and simplifying the process for users.

At MeltOne, we firmly believe that the future of businesses lies in their ability to intelligently leverage data to make informed decisions. Recent advancements from Snowflake, particularly with the introduction of “Document AI” and the integration of “Streamlit,” open new opportunities for companies wishing to evolve towards a data-driven strategy.
