EIT Manufacturing – Power BI
I – CONTEXT
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT, European Institute of Innovation and Technology in English) is a European public institute established on March 11, 2008. It was set up with the aim of becoming an innovation facilitator in Europe. Its objective is to become one of the leading representatives of innovation, research and growth in the European Union.
The institute does not directly fund individual projects. It contributes to the funding of Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) made up of triangular networks: universities, companies and research institutes work together on projects and themselves fund entrepreneurs and innovators.
II – Challenge and Delivery
EIT Manufacturing wanted to evolve its data visualisation tools.
Implementing this tool now also implies another need: supporting users in new ways of working and ensuring adoption of the tool enhancements.
In this context, EIT Manufacturing was looking for BI support to meet the following objectives:
- Make it easier to access the information stored in the only system currently in place
- Create reports accessible to everyone
- Create reports dedicated to certain teams
- Train business teams so they can be autonomous in handling data
MeltOne proposed a pragmatic two-step approach. First, creating the data model and the basic dashboards in Power BI. Then training technical and business users. The goal was to make users autonomous in using and evolving the tool.
To deliver this project, there were 3 internal staff, including 2 data engineers and 1 project manager, and 2 consultants: 1 architect to define the data model and technical architecture, and 1 data consultant to deliver in Power BI (Power Query, DAX and self-service dashboards) and train key users (technical team and key users).
III – RESULTS
Deployment in 1 month of a new model and the Power BI environment.
EIT Manufacturing appreciated MeltOne’s flexibility, technical expertise and the pragmatism of the proposed solution.
Testimonial
“The main challenges were to deliver a rapid and complete rollout of a brand-new tool, make the client fully autonomous (co-delivery and training) and provide the right level of self-service.”
