Release 2211: What’s New in SAP Business ByDesign?
A new release of SAP Business ByDesign is available, offering a host of new features to enhance the functional scope of the flagship solution for SMEs, mid-caps, and innovative companies. This article provides an overview of the most important new features in SAP Business ByDesign 22.11.
The new features are summarized below:
- Additional Costs.
- Machine Learning Cockpit.
- The new SAP Business ByDesign add-in for Microsoft Outlook.
- Workflow rules for the business objects Credit Memo, Item, and Service Product.
1. Additional Costs
SAP Business ByDesign now supports the “Additional Costs” functionality. You can now plan additional costs in purchase orders to quickly make total costs transparent, allocate invoiced additional costs to goods receipts, and improve the accuracy of item valuation in inventory, work-in-progress, and cost of goods sold.

This can be used as a basis for updating planned amounts with actual amounts and reconciling additional costs in finance.
Furthermore, you have the option to decide when to update the planned amounts of additional costs with the actual invoiced amounts, which are used as the basis for inventory valuation.
You can analyze the additional costs of an item and compare planned and actual values. The solution supports multiple parallel accounting systems with different capitalization requirements for additional costs.

2. Machine Learning Cockpit
The Machine Learning Cockpit (MLC) now brings predictive analytics capabilities to SAP Business ByDesign by leveraging the power of the SAP HANA Predictive Analytics Library (PAL) for the SAP Business ByDesign tenant.
The tool allows key users to create predictive scenarios using data from analytical reporting data sources, on which PAL machine learning algorithms attempt to train the model during the training process. This model can be applied to new data to perform updated forecasts. The forecasts can then be used directly in SAP Business ByDesign business documents, in analytical reporting, or in PDI solutions (via the provided API).

3. New SAP Business ByDesign add-in for Microsoft Outlook
You can now activate the new SAP Business ByDesign add-in for Microsoft Outlook. It supports all existing functionalities. It has also been extended with features such as an improved user interface for the “Associate To” form and direct access to key information for accounts, contacts, campaigns, leads, and opportunities during the association process.
The new add-in is available in all languages supported by SAP Business ByDesign. You can download it from the Download Center view of the Application and User Management work center or the Self-Services view of the Home work center. Previously installed SAP Business ByDesign add-ins must be uninstalled first.

4. Workflow rules for the business objects Credit Memo, Item, and Service Product
You can now define workflow rules for the business objects Credit Memo, Item, and Service Product and activate notifications or emails when specific field values have been changed, based on defined conditions.
To create a workflow rule, go to Application and User Management Workflow Rules Create. Select Credit Memo / Item / Service Product from the dropdown list in the Business Object field and follow the standard process for creating workflow rules.
