BPCE manages its performance with MeltOne’s consulting and integration offerings

Secteur : FSI – Banking and Insurance
Durée du projet : 6 years
Activité : BPCE, the leader in cooperative banking in France with more than 105,000 employees, has established itself as a major player in the European financial sector. Created in 2009 from the merger of the Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Épargne groups, BPCE builds on a banking heritage spanning more than two centuries. This rich history has enabled the group to transform into a diversified player, present across all banking and insurance businesses, while remaining rooted in the real economy and local regions.

How do you manage the performance of a mutual and decentralised banking group?

BPCE accounts for 25% of the financing market in France. For the past ten years, the group has been building its answer with Anaplan and MeltOne.

This feedback comes from a round table organised with Anaplan (BPCE: managing performance in a mutual group, Anaplan Connect Paris). Two speakers share their experience: Christophe Lebrun (Anaplan platform manager, BPCE SA) and Benjamin Lambert (network monitoring product owner).

A mutual group facing complex performance management challenges

BPCE has 36 million customers and nearly 110,000 employees. The group has a gross banking income of 26 billion euros and a net income of 4 billion euros.

The group relies on autonomous entities with different frameworks and cultures. Managing performance therefore requires reconciling several imperatives.

  • A common reference framework, while preserving each entity’s autonomy.

  • Reliable and fast financial closings.

  • Resilient performance management in the face of exogenous shocks.

  • Integrating new entities without destabilising the setup.

In short, a decentralised group must still speak with one voice.

A rollout proven by integrating new entities with MeltOne

The platform’s scalability was tested during the group’s latest acquisitions. BPCE Equipment Solution, a leasing specialist, joined Anaplan in 2024 with MeltOne. Three stages structured this project: harmonising processes and reference frameworks, configuring then maintaining the models, and supporting the teams.

The integration timeline was considered short, notably thanks to the solution’s user-friendly interface. The project was carried out progressively, with several pilot entities, then extended to the entire scope. This approach secured business rules, data quality and adoption of the tool.

End-to-end support, from business consulting to solution integration

As part of the integration of this new entity onto the Anaplan platform, MeltOne jointly mobilises its consulting and EPM integration expertise. Alongside the Anaplan integration team, our business experts from the consulting practice work across the entire project cycle and provide the daily interface between business teams and technical consultants, to ensure requirements are properly aligned with the platform’s capabilities.

The support covers the following activities in particular:

  • Scoping and functional design: Analysis and optimisation of FP&A processes, facilitation of requirements gathering and prioritisation workshops, formalisation of the scoping document, securing project scope and timeline, functional contribution to detailed specifications.
  • Project management and documentation: preparation and facilitation of working sessions, drafting of meeting minutes, tracking decisions and coordinating actions between business teams and the integration team.
  • Testing : test strategy, preparing test cases, qualifying and tracking issues, then corrected by the EPM team.
  • Change management: supporting international entities, preparing materials, securing the go-live.

This complementarity between consulting and integration illustrates MeltOne’s differentiating positioning: offering clients a single point of contact and end-to-end support, from defining and formalising business requirements through to deploying the solution and its adoption by users.

On this type of project, the challenge is not limited to implementing a new tool. Processes, business rules and the needs of both the central body and the entities must be aligned. Our role was to create this day-to-day link, from design to testing, to secure the go-live and enable teams to take ownership of the new model.

Testimonial

“For BPCE ES’s management control team, integrating Anaplan represents real added value. Whether for the monthly close or budget preparation, where timelines are often tight, the tool helps optimise certain processes, generating time and productivity gains. It also enables teams to focus more on analysis and higher value-added activities.”

Key takeaways

Data quality is a prerequisite for any reliable performance management.

The platform must serve both levels—central and local—to be adopted everywhere.

Resilience is prepared: upstream simulation responds quickly to exogenous shocks.

Scalability is key in external growth: integrating an entity in a few weeks is a real advantage.

FAQ

It is the set of processes that measure and manage financial results. The group is thus made up of autonomous entities. It relies on reliable data, consolidation tools and simulation mechanisms.

Anaplan is a cloud-native platform designed for complex and decentralised environments. It enables connected management models that are accessible to business users, without heavy dependence on IT.

Integration generally follows three steps: harmonising reference frameworks, configuring existing models, and supporting the teams. At BPCE, an entity can thus become operational in under 4 months in the EPM tool.

It guarantees the reliability and traceability of financial information. This is indeed the condition for models to produce usable and auditable results.

It helps automate repetitive tasks, such as reporting. In addition, it enhances predictive analysis. This does, however, require a solid, historised database.
